In case you wanted to learn more about matcha and its health benefits, read on:
What is matcha? Matcha is the powder made from ground-up green tea leaves. Green tea, on the other hand, is made by steeping the green tea leaves in water, and then throwing them out. With matcha, you are consuming the ground up green tea leaves in their entirety. Which means the nutrients and flavors in matcha are super-concentrated vs. regular green tea.
How much caffeine is in matcha? Yes, there is caffeine in matcha and green tea. Because matcha is more concentrated than green tea, it does have more caffeine in a single serving. A single 8 oz. serving of matcha has about ~65-70 mg of caffeine, whereas a single serving of green tea will have about 28 mg. Both of these are less than the caffeine content in black coffee, which has about 95 mg in an 8 oz. cup. Another upside is that matcha contains an amino-acid called l-theanine, which helps your body absorb the caffeine more slowly, and perhaps you can avoid the quick jolt-then-crash effect of drinking black coffee.
How much caffeine is in a serving of Whisk’d matcha pancakes? 1 serving of Whisk’d matcha pancakes has ~43 mg of caffeine, which is less than the amount in a single serving size matcha drink. But our pancakes are pretty irresistible, and maybe you’ll eat 4 pancakes instead of 2. It’ll still be less than the caffeine in a cup of black coffee. Just don’t give your kids too many!
What else does matcha do for you? Matcha is rich in catechins, a class of plant compounds that acts as a natural antioxidant. Antioxidants may help prevent cell damage and potentially lower your risk of several chronic diseases. Some studies have found that matcha helped boost brain function and may prevent cancer. Matcha may also help with weight regulation and promote heart health.
